What is a Hero?
In our introduction to this second half of our unit on heroes, we discussed the question "what is a hero?" and what role literary heroes play in society, particularly since there are countless tales of heroes passed on for centuries in every region of the world. The discussion was helped with the reading below, where we created a list of traits for literary heroes based on the reading. We also considered whether or not Don Quixote qualifies as a hero, according to the traits listed.
"Real" Superheroes: Crusaders or Vigilantes?
Did you know that out in world there are "real" superheroes - costumed crusaders "doing good" in their neighbourhoods. Are those caped crusaders doing more harm than good? Visit the website The Real Life Super Hero Project and view the documentary below, "Superheroes in Real Life," explores the subject further.

The assignment is to write a persuasive essay - about two pages in length - that answers one of two questions, one relating solely to 'Real Superheroes', the other relating to the connection between Don Quixote and 'Real Superheroes.' The essay must make specific references to texts used in class.
